Art to be Framed

"I want to make learning to frame fun, creative and most important profitable. Picture framing is a true art... the art of fine design and a skilled craft." ~ Sandra Landes

A little about Sandra...

Without ever planning on going into the picture framing sector Sandra got into this business in 1979. She opened a "cute country" gift store. Here she sold art supplies and did a little picture framing. Within a year Sandra realized most of the income was from picture framing. She set out to make it her goal to learn, expand her skills in framing, to become more knowledgeable about the framing field and she soon became a qualified custom picture framer.

This was in 1980-81; there were few opportunities for education in this industry. However P.P.F.A. (Professional Picture Framers Association) was very strong. Their conventions and trade shows were big events. Their educational programs were excellent. Sandra took every seminar and workshop she could. She attended major events from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New Orleans to Chicago. The Chicago event was the " National Convention ". Sandra wanted to be the best picture framer in this market. Sandra took her Certified Picture Framers ( C.P.F.) exam in Chicago in 1988. She was one of fewer than 1000 Certified Picture Framers (C.P.F.) in the country.

Sandra became very involved in The Professional Picture Framers Association (P.P.F.A.) on the local level. She was a charter member of P.P.F.A. and president of the Inland Empire Chapter of P.P.F.A. in Southern California . During the growing years her business she went from a little old house to an amazing 4000 square foot art gallery and custom picture framing business. Sandra Landes's Gallery was known for it's creative designs, originality, and quality craftsmanship. She worked with interior designers, model home design firms, artist and most important, the private consumer.

Sandra sold The Corona Gallery and moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. She opened a new picture framing business and she realized there was not an P.P.F.A. chapter in the Santa Fe area. She hosted an organizational meeting and became the chartering President of the New Mexico " Zia " Chapter of P.P.F.A. This group hosted regional trade shows, focusing on providing educational opportunities and the Certified Picture Framers (C.P.F.) exam. Sandra became involved with Southwestern Assoc. of Indian Arts (S.W.A.I.A.)which is Santa Fe's world famous Indian Market to create a framing competition for their annual market poster.

Sandra has won numerous framing and design awards including a 1994 First Place in the Indian Market. She has taught framing classes for local Professional Picture Framers Association(P.P.F.A.) chapters and workshops at trade shows. She was invited to teach for the University of New Mexico, Los Alamos. During her time as President in New Mexico she had the opportunity to attend two leadership work shops in Richmond, Virginia. Sandra been published twice in cameraDECOR Magazine on September 1991 and September 1994.

Sandra left Santa Fe and relocated in Mt Shasta, California. In this small quite village She has set up a studio in her home and works by appointment.

Sandra Landes will be your instructor and host for the picture framing workshops.
